Green pass , 50% of Florence hotels to be open

50% of Florence hotels to be open

FLORENCE, ITALY – From May 15 almost 50% of Florence hotels will reopen. The estimate is from Confindustria Firenze, after the Prime Minister Mario Draghi launched the Green pass that will allow people in Italy to move freely within the country and to enter from abroad.

During the pandemic, most hotels closed completely. In these weeks it has been estimated that only 10% of hotels are open, frequented almost exclusively by people who travel for work. Currently the hotels, together with the company canteens, are the only places where customers are allowed to eat indoors.

The green pass for tourism should change this scenario with the reopening of the hotel facilities even if the pandemic has also led to some definitive closures of hotels.

At the same time, museums, theatres and other entertainment facilities are also reopening to the public these days.

“We are very happy that finally there is some attention to tourism, but to recover what we have lost it will take months, if not years – declares Giancarlo Carniani, president of the Hotel Industry section of Confindustria Firenze to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica -. According to our estimates, approximately 50% of the hotels in Florence will reopen by May 15 and by the end of the year we will perhaps reach 70%. A real restart will not take place until the spring of 2022 “.
