Travelling on Florence’s buses and tramway will become more expensive from 1 August 2026, when the price of a standard single ticket rises from €1.70 to €2.
The increase, approved by the Tuscany regional government, applies to urban public transport services operated by Autolinee Toscane, including Florence’s tram network. The new fare represents an increase of nearly 18% and marks the first rise since August 2023.
Regional officials said the increase is linked to inflation and to provisions contained in the public transport contract signed with Autolinee Toscane, the company that operates bus services across Tuscany.
For visitors and occasional users, the most visible change will be the higher price of a single ticket. The regional government has not announced any changes to regional train fares, which will remain unchanged.
Possible discounts still under discussion
The Tuscany regional government is expected to meet municipalities later this month to discuss whether local authorities can help fund discounts or subsidies that could reduce the impact of the increase.
Regional president Eugenio Giani said one option could be lowering the effective fare to between €1.80 and €1.90 through additional public funding, although no agreement has yet been reached.
New free travel rules for children
The region has also announced that free travel will be extended to all children under the age of 11. At present, free travel is granted only to children below a specified height threshold.
Officials said the measure is part of a broader effort to limit the impact of fare increases on families while continuing investment in the public transport network.
