Pressure drops and possible water cuts are expected from late Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17, during Publiacqua works on the “Autostrada dell’Acqua”, the main water pipeline serving the Florence–Prato–Pistoia metropolitan area.
Publiacqua says the operation will connect new pipelines to two water-network nodes on Lungarno Pecori Giraldi and Lungarno Colombo. The most difficult day is expected to be Saturday, May 16, with service returning gradually during Sunday, May 17.
The works may affect about 170,000 users in Florence and in the municipalities of Calenzano, Campi Bisenzio, Fiesole, Poggio a Caiano, Prato, Sesto Fiorentino and Signa. More limited problems could also occur in border areas of Scandicci, Carmignano, Montemurlo, Quarrata and Bagno a Ripoli.
Areas at highest risk in Florence
The highest-risk “red” areas include Statuto, Castello, Poggetto, Sodo, parts of Rifredi north of the railway station, Campo di Marte, Piazza Beccaria, Santa Maria Novella station, Piazza della Libertà and parts of the northern historic centre.
In these areas, strong pressure reductions and possible water outages may occur even at street level, depending on the building, floor and presence of water tanks or autoclaves.
Medium and lower-risk areas
The “orange” areas include parts of Florence’s historic centre, Coverciano, Rovezzano, Sant’Andrea a Rovezzano and Via Aretina, with pressure drops and possible outages mainly from the afternoon into the evening.
The “yellow” areas include Settignano, Ponte a Mensola, Careggi, the upper Cure and Castello areas, Via Bolognese, Cascine, Peretola, Brozzi, Isolotto, Le Piagge, Legnaia, Soffiano, Ponte a Greve, Bellosguardo and part of Galluzzo. In these areas, problems are expected mainly in the evening and especially on upper floors.
Practical information
Residents can check whether their street is included on Publiacqua’s dedicated page. Here the complete affected area map.
Publiacqua says it will send alerts by phone and SMS to registered users, publish updates on its website and social channels, and provide Facebook support during the works. Water tankers are also planned for the most affected areas, with exact locations to be confirmed with local authorities.
