Santo Spirito, it is forbidden to sit on the steps of the church

Santo Spirito

FLORENCE, ITALY – It is forbidden to sit, eat and drink in the churchyard of the Basilica of Santo Spirito, the square most frequented by young people in Florence. It is forbidden to sit in front of the main facade and also in front of the side facade.

Transit is allowed only to those who enter the church, without prejudice to initiatives promoted or authorized by the Municipality or by the religious authorities. These are the new rules that were established by an ordinance signed by the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, after the subject had been addressed during the last provincial committee for public order and safety.

The decision was made after the steps had returned to being a bivouac place in the last weekends, where anti-Covid 19 rules were not respected.

The prohibitions are in force every day of the week, 24 hours a day. Any violation will be punished with a pecuniary administrative sanction ranging from 400 to 1,000 euros.

During the first few days of the new rule being in place, some patrols of the traffic police are in the area to inform Florentines and tourists that it is no longer possible to sit on the steps of the church.
