FLORENCE, ITALY – This morning in Palazzo Vecchio the ninetieth edition of Pitti Uomo has been inaugurated. Among others, it was present the minister for economic development, Carlo Calenda and the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella,
The 90th anniversary edition of the fair is running from June 13 to June 17 at Fortezza Da Basso in Florence.
Vincenzo Boccia, president of Italian industry lobby Confindustria, described the high-fashion menswear show Pitti Uomo as “the most important fashion fair in the world” and said it captured the sense of Made in Italy style.
Pitti Uomo President Gaetano Marzotto used the opening ceremony to draw attention to the high level of self-employment in the fashion sector, urging the government to do more to help self-employed workers.
He also warned that many areas of expertise in the fashion sector were dying out, and that more funding and efforts were needed for training in specific skills such as design.
