FLORENCE, ITALY – Olio Capitale 2014 confirms the key international event for quality oil, demonstrated by the presence of the Ambassador of Japan Masaharu Kohno and Curtis Cord the director of the American publication Olive Oil Times.
From 7 to 10 March Olio Capitale, the exhibition of typical quality extra virgin olive oils organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Trieste through its special company Aries, returns to Trieste’s splendid Stazione Marittima. An exceptional location, surrounded by the sea and at the same time located in the heart of the city, allowing visitors to combine the goodness of the oil with the beauty of Trieste. A unique opportunity both for professionals of the food sector who want to discover new very high quality oils for their customers and for the enthusiast who does not want to miss out on oils capable of enhancing the flavour of every dish. Once again the strong point of the fair, which in 2013 saw over 10 thousand visitors from 26 countries, will be excellence.
The stand of the Chamber of Commerce of Florence was one of the most visited during the first day, with the PDO and PGI Tuscan Chianti Classico (in particular the “Colline di Firenze”) produced by some Florentine companies selected annually among the best PDO and PGI in Tuscan oils.
The presence of more than 300 exhibitors (a growth of 25% with respect to 2013) from Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Marche, Molise, Puglia, Sardegna, Sicilia, Toscana, Umbria, Trentino and the Veneto, but also from Croatia, Albania and Greece, provide the opportunity to sample all the different varieties cultivated in Italy. A cross section of the best Italian products of excellence will be present. Of the 300 producers at the fair a good 93 will exhibit organic extra virgin olive oils and 78 oils with PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) or IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) certifications.
The audience of professional trade visitors continues to expand with more than thirty nations accredited to Olio Capitale 2014, in order to experience Italian excellence first hand. The significant presence of professionals from all over Europe and the United States has this year seen the addition of buyers and oil sommeliers from Canada and Japan.
