FLORENCE, ITALY – Visitors can greet the new year at national archeological sites and museums across Italy on Tuesday, as many institutions will open their doors even on the January 1 holiday.
From ancient Rome’s Pompeii near Naples to the Hapsburgs’ Miramare castle in Trieste, a complete listing of open sites can be found on the Italian government’s culture ministry website www.beniculturali.it.
Not all national treasures will be on show, however. Illustrious exceptions – closed on January 1 – include the Colosseum and the Imperial Forum in Rome, the Milan art museum Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
The Uffizi’s exhibit “I Mai Visti”, showing a series of 44 marble Caesar busts, will be the only part of the museum to open on January 1. (Ansa)
