KME, president Salvatore Orlando died at 55

FLORENCE, ITALY – A heart attack cause dead, at his home in Florence, of Salvatore Orlando, 55, president of metallurgical group KME.

Salvatore Orlando was born in 1957 and holds a degree in Political Science. He joined the Group as an executive in 1984. Subsequently, he was elected to the Boards of Directors of the Group’s main industrial companies and became deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board of KME AG in January 2003. He has been a Company Director since 1991.

KME is a pan-European industrial group with a leading position in the global market for copper and copper alloy products.

Founded in 1886 as “SMI Società Metallurgica Italiana”, KME is today an industrial group with head offices in Florence and Europe-wide operations, with a leading position in the world copper processing industry.

With: annual production of around 570,000 tons of copper and copper alloy semi-finished products, consolidated turnover of € 3,000 million in 98 countries, 13 factories in the major European national markets and in China, 2 industry-leading research centers, a network of sales branches which cover the major European countries as well as the American and Asian markets, a workforce of 6,700 employees in 16 countries, a network of 21,000 business partners counting clients and suppliers, around 9,500 shareholders.
