The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze and the Bargello Museums (GAMB) have launched “Night at the Museum”, a photography contest linked to their special evening openings in August. The initiative invites visitors to photograph the unique atmosphere created by nighttime visits to the Galleria dell’Accademia and the Medici Chapels Museum.
The contest is open to all visitors attending the evening openings on 4 August and 10 August 2026. Participants are encouraged to submit a photograph that captures a detail, mood or emotion experienced during their visit, offering a personal interpretation of the museums after dark.
Entries can be submitted by email between 4 and 31 August 2026, together with the participant’s name, surname and the name of the museum where the photograph was taken. A jury appointed by GAMB will select seven winning images, judging them on quality, originality and their ability to convey the atmosphere of the evening openings. The selected photographs will be published on the museums’ social media channels with credit to the photographers.
The Galleria dell’Accademia is best known for housing Michelangelo’s David, as well as the artist’s unfinished Prisoners, while the Medici Chapels Museum includes Michelangelo’s New Sacristy and the monumental burial place of the Medici family.
Evening opening dates
The upcoming evening openings include:
- Tuesday, 4 August: Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, open until 11 p.m., and the Medici Chapels Museum with extended evening hours.
- Monday, 10 August: the Medici Chapels Museum will host a special opening for the Night of San Lorenzo, from 7.15 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The initiative aims to encourage visitors to experience the museums from a different perspective, when changing light conditions create a different setting for viewing some of Florence’s best-known works of art.
