Florence is under a red heat alert through Sunday after the Italian Health Ministry issued a Level 3 warning for Friday July 10, Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12, 2026. The alert indicates weather conditions that pose a high health risk, particularly for older people, young children and those with chronic medical conditions.
The three-day warning comes as a prolonged spell of hot weather continues across Tuscany. Temperatures are expected to reach around 35°C during the hottest part of the day, with perceived temperatures climbing to 37°C on Saturday before easing slightly to 36°C on Sunday.
Weather forecasts indicate that the hot air mass affecting Tuscany is expected to persist over the weekend, with no significant change likely to bring relief in the short term.
Florence’s municipal authorities are urging residents and visitors to follow the Health Ministry’s advice to reduce the risk of heat-related illness. People are encouraged to avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, drink water regularly, eat light meals and limit strenuous physical activity.
Particular attention should be paid to older people, young children and anyone with chronic health conditions. The Health Ministry has also published its standard ten-point guide with practical advice on staying safe during periods of extreme heat.
