The Christmas lights in Via Tornabuoni were switched on last night, drawing residents and visitors to one of Florence’s best-known luxury shopping streets. The installation, coordinated by the Florence branch of Confcommercio, now covers the entire high-fashion district for the first time, including Via de’ Tornabuoni, Via Strozzi, Piazza Strozzi and Via dei Pescioni.
The display features a sequence of illuminated archways five metres tall, powered by around twelve kilometres of cabling and 120,000 energy-efficient LED lights. Three large light installations have also been added as photo points, including a seven-metre-tall “shopping bag” in Piazza Santa Trinita, created specifically for visitors looking to take pictures along the route.
According to Confcommercio, the project involves 120 boutiques in the area and aims to enhance the festive atmosphere throughout the upcoming shopping season. The lights will remain on until 16 January 2026, coinciding with the end of Pitti Uomo.
Florence’s mayor, Sara Funaro, attended the switch-on, noting that the early start was intended to give residents more time to enjoy the festive atmosphere in the city centre.
