Strong winds and heavy rain have battered Tuscany throughout Thursday, with gusts reaching 130 km/h in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina (Pisa province) and waves over 3.5 meters recorded near the island of Gorgona off Livorno.
Regional president Eugenio Giani reported that wind speeds also hit 120 km/h on Gorgona and 90 km/h along the central coast. The Ombrone Pistoiese river reached its first alert level at Ponte alle Vanne, while landslides have affected several roads in the province of Lucca.
In Stazzema, in the Apuan Alps, local authorities recorded intense rainfall: 106 mm at Arni and around 45–50 mm in Cardoso and Terrinca since midnight. Several trees have fallen on local and provincial roads.
Firefighters have been working continuously since the morning, with 35 interventions in the Florence area alone—mostly to remove fallen trees—and dozens more in the provinces of Lucca and Pisa. In Versilia, strong winds caused damage to buildings and blocked streets; teams from Grosseto, Arezzo, and Florence were sent to assist local crews.
