High-tech healthcare hub opens in Florence as SYNLAB expands in Italy

A major new healthcare facility has opened in Florence, marking one of the largest private medical investments in Tuscany in recent years. The new SYNLAB Manifattura Firenze Medical Centre, located inside the redeveloped Manifattura Tabacchi complex, brings together diagnostic services, medical specialists and imaging laboratories under one roof.

The center covers more than 4,000 square meters over four floors and is expected to serve around 200,000 patients every year. About 80 doctors and healthcare professionals will work in the facility, which includes areas dedicated to laboratory tests, radiology, and women’s health.

The building, completed in just over two years, was designed with energy-saving systems and sustainable materials. It is part of SYNLAB’s growing network in Tuscany, which already includes ten medical centers, more than 40 blood collection points, and a central laboratory in Calenzano.

SYNLAB, a Munich-based diagnostics group operating in over 20 countries, has been expanding its presence in Italy. The Florence center follows recent acquisitions in northern regions such as Veneto, confirming the company’s strategy to strengthen its role in national healthcare.

The new facility also fits into Florence’s broader plan to turn the former Manifattura Tabacchi industrial area into a mixed-use neighborhood combining culture, research, and services.
