Energy technology giant Baker Hughes has announced a €300 million investment plan in its Italian facilities over the next five years, a move that will strengthen production sites in Tuscany and create new jobs across the country.
The US company confirmed the plan during the Gastech energy fair in Milan, outlining an expansion program that will generate around 300 new positions nationwide. The investment covers nearly all Baker Hughes’ Italian plants operating under its Industrial & Energy Technology division, with a strong focus on Tuscany.
In Florence, Massa, and Avenza, the company will expand the production capacity of its NovaLT turbines, purchase new machinery and testing benches, and integrate robotics and artificial intelligence into manufacturing processes. These upgrades are aimed at increasing efficiency and supporting global energy projects that require safe, reliable, and increasingly sustainable technology.
The Tuscan operations are among the strategic hubs for Baker Hughes, which employs thousands of people in the region. The company has long-standing roots in Florence, where its engineering and technology center plays a central role in developing energy solutions for international markets.
Beyond Tuscany, the plan includes expanding production lines and innovative technologies in Bari and Talamona, while continuing ongoing investments at the Vibo Valentia facility in Calabria, a key site for producing energy components.
Baker Hughes highlighted that the initiative reflects both the company’s commitment to Italy and the country’s importance in shaping the future of global energy. Recent international agreements, such as the supply of turbines for data center projects in the United States and for Saudi Arabia’s Master Gas Services III pipeline, will rely on technologies developed and produced in Italian facilities.
The Florence site, historically known as Nuova Pignone, has long been a symbol of industrial excellence in Tuscany. Founded in the 19th century as a mechanical workshop, it became a global reference point for turbines and energy equipment.
Acquired by General Electric in the 1990s and later integrated into Baker Hughes, the plant has consistently represented the cutting edge of mechanical engineering in Florence and across the region. Today it remains one of the company’s most strategic hubs worldwide, combining tradition, innovation, and advanced technology to drive the future of energy.
