The Accademia Gallery in Firenze and the Department of History, Archaeology, Geography, Arts and Performing Arts (SAGAS) of the University of Florence have launched Soggettive d’arte, a new digital storytelling project designed to present the museum’s masterpieces through fresh and personal perspectives.
The initiative is the result of an ongoing collaboration between the two institutions and was developed with students of the course in “Museum Education and Didactics.” Each student created a short video narrative dedicated to a chosen artwork within the museum, blending academic art-historical training with contemporary communication tools.
The videos use a variety of media — including audio, text, images, video, and even AI-generated animations — to give life to stories that highlight both the universal themes and the emotional resonance of the works.
While the videos are produced in Italian, international visitors can still enjoy the project. Thanks to YouTube’s automatic subtitle translation system, it is possible to follow the students’ explanations in English and many other languages. The full playlist is available on the Accademia Gallery’s official YouTube channel: Soggettive d’arte.
For the students, the project offered a first hands-on experience in museum communication, allowing them to experiment with personal storytelling and creative formats. For the public, it provides a new way to discover the collection — through short, evocative narratives that draw on memories, emotions, and imaginative reinterpretations.
With Soggettive d’arte, the Accademia Gallery confirms its commitment to innovative approaches that open up the museum to broader audiences and invite visitors to look at its masterpieces not only as works of art, but also as stories to be told and shared.
