From May 9 to 11, Florence will face a major water outage due to essential work on the city’s main aqueduct system, known as the “Autostrada dell’Acqua.” As previously reported by Florence Daily News, residents in Florence and nearby towns should prepare for service interruptions and reduced water pressure during this period. To support the public, the city will deploy 11 water trucks across various neighborhoods to provide access to drinking water.

The planned work, managed by Publiacqua, involves connecting major aqueduct pipelines near piazzale Donatello and piazza Beccaria, using large 1.2-meter-diameter pipes. The intervention will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 9, and continue throughout the weekend. Water supply will gradually be restored starting Saturday night, with full normalization expected by the end of Sunday, May 11. During the reopening phase, temporary issues such as cloudy water and local pipe breaks may occur.

Water trucks will be stationed at the following locations:

The city has been divided into three risk zones based on expected service disruptions:

Timings may vary depending on water consumption and local elevation. Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly during this time and to stay informed through updates from Publiacqua and local news sources.
