FLORENCE, ITALY – Florence and other 16 Italian cities are bidding to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest after Roman rockers Maneskin’s win this year. RAI State broadcaster will choose the host city by the end of August with the European Broadcasting Union.

The contest will take place in Italy in May 2022. The bidding cities include regional capitals Bologna, Genoa, Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin, and Trieste; provincial capitals Alessandria, Matera, Pesaro, Rimini, and Viterbo; and the towns of Acireale (Catania), Bertinoro di Romagna (Forlì – Cesena), Jesolo (Venice), Palazzolo Acreide (Siracusa), and Sanremo (Imperia). RAI is set to send each bidder details of the requirements for the bid.

The Eurovision Song Contest is the most important international song competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), featuring participants representing primarily European countries. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio, transmitted to national broadcasters via the EBU’s Eurovision and Euroradio networks, with competing countries then casting votes for the other countries’ songs to determine a winner.
