Summer 2021: the 17 Blue Flag beaches in Tuscany

FLORENCE, ITALY – The number of Italian seaside and lakeside resorts awarded the prestigious Blue Flag designation has risen from 195 last year to 201 this year, the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) said on May 10 .

The number of Blue Flag tourist ports has also risen, from 75 to 81. Liguria came top again with 32 resorts, while Campania rose to second spot with 19 Flags, followed by Tuscany  and Puglia with 17 awards its.

FEE Italia President Claudio Mazza said the Blue-Flag resorts could be “an engine powering the recovery of Italy’s tourism sector” after the COVID 19 pandemic.He said the organisation vowed to help local authorities reopen in safety this summer.

Here are the blue flag beaches in Tuscany:

 Carrara

The Marina di Carrara, at the feet of the Apuan Alps, the beach is made of a fine, soft sand; public transport connections.

Massa

The Massa area offers a huge variety of beaches: indeed, going along the coast you come across the beaches of Ronchi, Brugiano, Marina Centro, Campeggi, Ricortola and Marina di Ponente.

Forte dei Marmi

Versilia is the perfect destination for anyone who loves art as well as the clear blue sea.

Camaiore

The beach of Camaiore and the Lido Arlecchino make for a delightful, elegant holiday beach resort, looking out over the broad Versilian sands.

Viareggio

Viareggio, the Carnival city and the pearl of Versilia, was awarded the Blue Flag for its beach and also for the beach of Torre del Lago Puccini. 

Pisa

Sandy beaches, clear sea and wide pinewoods are found at the Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone.

Livorno

The environmental quality and the tourist services at its best at Cala del Miramare, Rogiolo, Spiaggia del Sale, Tre Ponti, Rex and Quercianella.

Rosignano Marittimo

In the municipality of Rosignano Marittimo, the Blue Flag has been awarded to Castiglioncello and Vada.

Cecina

The beaches of Le Gorette and the Marina di Cecina are close to any service that might be needed, and are therefore ideal for relaxing family vacations. You can also pursue sports, including water sports here: there are swimming and sailing schools, horse stables and shooting ranges.

Bibbona

Marina di Bibbona is among the most popular tourist hotspots along the Etruscan Coast. Surrounded by nature, it is a beach for all the family and also for those who love watersports.

Castagneto Carducci

Marina di Castagneto Carducci has a particularly clean, clear sea with a welcoming and inviting sand.

San Vincenzo

The beaches of San Vincenzo, which include Principessa and La Conchiglia, are beloved by visitors local and foreign and are well-equipped for those who love watersports.

Piombino 

The beaches are found around Perelli, Carlappiano, Mortelliccio, il Pino, Carbonifera and Torre Mozza.

Marciana Marina 

The Blue Flag has also been awarded to the Fenicia beach at Marciana Marina, the little fishing village on the north-west coast of the Isle of Elba.

Follonica 

Located in the middle of the beautiful bay that gives it its name, it stretches from the Piombino promontory to Punta Ala, and the Isle of Elba looms out to sea.

Castiglione della Pescaia 

Beach resorts to visit are Rocchette, Roccamare, More, Riva del Sole, Capezzolo, Ponente, Spiaggia Pian d’Alma, Casetta, Piastrone, Punta Ala, Levante and Tombolo.

Grosseto

The coastlines of Marina di Grosseto and Principina a Mare, not far from the Maremma regional Park, the wild green heart of the province of Grosseto, are considered some of the finest beaches for families with children.
