FLORENCE, ITALY – Brioche with ice cream, gelato in Italian, is when two countries come together to create a delicious brilliance.
Brioche Is a bread of French origin and whose high egg and butter content gives it a rich and tender crumb. The homemade ice cream is a frozen dessert of Italian origin. The father of it is the Florentine Bernardo Buontalenti.
Everyone knows the goodness of brioche and the taste of ice cream but not everyone has proven what a delicacy it is to enjoy them together.
In Florence it is possible to go to many places (bar, gelaterie, pasticcerie) that serve them together. But in Oltrarno district you can find the best ones.
Here are the three places I think you deserve to go.
For a quick brioche with a choice of many flavors of homemade ice cream you can go to Gelateria La Carraia, located close to Ponte alla Carraia. The flavors that go well with the brioche are yogurt with Nutella, delizia alla Carraia, hazelnut.
For a brioche with an exquisitely Italian flavor, the right place is Sbrino, Gelateria Contadina, which creates the few flavors of ice cream it has with strictly Tuscan or Italian products. The flavors I recommend are pistacchio and caramello. You have to be patient because the brioche has to be warm. Sbrino is located between piazza Santo Spirito and piazza del Carmine.
My favorite one is Gelateria la Sorbettiera in piazza Tasso, the heart of San Frediano. Here you can find the best combination between a high quality home made ice cream and a brioche so tasty that even a Frenchman would love. If you are passionate about chocolate you have to try the catrame flavor, a very dark chocolate ice cream, but in this place every flavor has to be tasted.
Try these gelatarie to see if you like them and if you don’t… you are in Italy continue to search and let us know!
