FLORENCE, ITALY – Venice Tourism Chief Paola Mar said that the city is considering making visitors pay a ticket to book entry into Saint Mark’s Square. This new tourist tax does not like other Italian cities, as Florence, Rome and the national Culture minister Dario Franceschini.
“It is a possibility that exists, not immediately, and within the realm of an agreed-on path – Mar told – Saint Mark’s is a monumental area. We have evaluated the limited closure of the area, with an eventual ticket, and seen that it is possible from the technical and legal point of view”.
In particular, the city of Florence is working to expand tourism all over the seasons and widen the area where visitors enter, but disagrees with a tax only for tourists.
