FLORENCE, ITALY – A copy of Michelangelo’s David statue painted in black and lying down was unveiled in Florence’s Piazza della Repubblica.
The statue in Carrara marble symbolizes the suffering caused by terror and violence worldwide.
Last Friday (July 15, 2016) Florence Mayor Dario Nardella and a representative of the local French community attended the unveiling of the statue.
The statue is called Noi (Us in Italian) and it’s a symbol of fraternity in the aftermath of the Nice attack that killed at least 85 people in the Bastille Day.
The black statue will remain in Piazza della Repubblica until July 21, 2016 to coincide with Michelangelo Week concerts and exhibitions dedicated to the artist.
