FLORENCE, ITALY – The first eight frescoes from Italian painter Paolo Uccello’s Stories from Genesis in Florence’s Basilica of Santa Maria Novella are going on show after a delicate restoration.
Their restoration was supported by 150,000 euros in financing from culture development agency Arcus.
They have faced several conservation problems due to humidity, pollution and inappropriate restoration work. Council officials ordered the latest intervention after a noticeable deterioration.
The 15th century frescoes will be displayed in a temporary exhibition set up in the refectory before returning to the church’s Green Cloister.
