Gucci Museum in Florence opens a new website

FLORENCE, ITALY – The Florence, Italy-headquartered luxury label Gucci launches Guccimuseo.com, a new iconic webisite that brings the historic Gucci Museo in Florence to a world audience.

The new website, which has been created to be fully responsive so as to provide an optimal viewing experience across all types of devices – desktop, tablet and smartphone – is translated into eight languages (as is gucci.com).

It is divided into three sections: The Archive, Gucci and the Arts, and The Museo; social networks are integrated to facilitate sharing (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest).

Spread across three floors, and spanning a total of 1,715 square metros, the museum (located in the central piazza della Signoria) charts Gucci’s remarkable 90-year history, from its beginnings when, in the tradition of his 14th century forbears, founder Guccio Gucci made his name as a purveyor of finest quality leather accessories, to its present day status as one of the world’s leading luxury goods brands.

In creating a space that reflects Gucci’s ethos whilst remaining sensitive to the Palazzo’s architecture, a meticulous restoration of the building’s interior sees old and new blend seamlessly to create a harmonious whole. The modernist lines and minimal colour palette of the contemporary updates integrate seamlessly with original features such as vaulted ceilings, age-worn stonework and frescoes. On the ground floor a collection of crests belonging to the original guilds has been added to with Gucci’s own coat of arms, itself a 1950s homage to the House’s alleged descent from a line of Renaissance saddlers.
