Exploring the life of Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo Da VinciFLORENCE, ITALY – A tour that starts in Anchiano. A genius with an insurmountable curiosity, Leonardo da Vinci used his surrounding natural landscape to fulfill the observations and make discoveries that would in turn become fundamental for his artworks, sculptures and his technical and industrial inventions. Leonardo travelled a great deal in his day and lived in many Italian cities and even in France for some time. Nonetheless he considered his birth-home of Anchiano, situated within the municipality of Vinci (Florence) to be the place most dear to his heart. Today his home is open for public visits and tours until June.

A real trip back in time made possible by CartOrange, leader in organizing trips and journeys. Thanks to the expert guidance and knowledge of Renaissance historian, the enchanting figure that is Leonardo da Vinci will materialize on a journey through Tuscany, with visits to some of the towns the artist visited most frequently.

The itinerary is organized to commence on September 14 with a special press conference in the birth home of Leonardo, in Anchiano.

« “In the footsteps of Leonardo” is an extraordinary adventure because there is always something to learn on and about the works of the artist, engineer, inventor and scientist – explains Gianpaolo Romano, administrator of CartOrange- and it is precisely on these last aspects that we base our journey through time. We will get to understand a man who, thanks to his intellect and visionary capacity was able to change history, and not only: it is also the chance to get to know a marvelous land full of art, culture, nature and delicious food and wine. An experience that will involve all five senses ».

For the mayor of Vinci, Dario Parrini, a collaboration with a partner par excellence such as CartOrange is a real honor because it can propel tourism in this region of Tuscany: «Journeys through time, organized by Cartorange, are a fascinating new idea. They are offering a special tourist package dedicated to the engineer and scientist, and will leave from the place of origin: his birth home of Anchiano, and will follow with visits to the city and to the Museo Leonardiano, an important institution for Vinci, attracting a national and international crowd. In July and August we have received over twenty thousand visits to the home and the tourism in Vinci increased by 10%. These are figures that have never been seen before, and we hope they continue to grow.”

Intervening is also the archeologist and historian Silvia Romagnoli, who teaches at the University of Bologna and who curates the historical/scientific side of CartOrange: «To choose Leonardo’s native home as point of departure is a natural choice: the new museum structure, enriched with efficient and multimedia supports allows for a closer look in on the artist’s private life, all together often ignored, and to highlight his artistic works. Next stop, the Museo Leonardiano, we encounter the main theme of the journey, Leonardo as scientist and inventor.

Thinking about Leonardo, one calls to mind the Mona Lisa and the rest of his painted works; in our itinerary, on the other hand, we have decided to focus on a fascinating and modern theme like that of the genius of Leonardo applied to the transformation and the understanding of nature. Journeys through Time are designed for this purpose, to reconstruct figures and historical movements both to discover new destinations and to look back at celebrated localities with a new perspective».

Tuscany ranks third as top touristic destinations for cultural journeys: it is chosen from 15,2% of Italians and 17,2% of foreigners. It is a place like this in which CartOrange can attract so many visitors, joining the rare beauty of a landscape to a food and wine itinerary. The itinerary which is made to measure according to the desires and curiosities of the participants and has as its central meeting point the Museo Leonardiano di Vinci, with the natal home in Anchiano, recently restored, and the gigantic wooden sculpture by Mario Ceroli depicting the Vitruvian man.

At the museum one can be part of a lesson on the Leonardesque Codices and allowed to look at replicas up close. The itinerary, which is dedicated to the rediscovery of a “concrete” Leonardo, who with his close observations of the world around him was able to anticipate the modern scientific thought, can last from 3 to 5 days, even involving the city of Milan, with the National Museum of Science and Technology, and the shores of the Adda, with the ferry of Imbersago that connects the river to the shore, involving yet another invention by Leonardo.

Before the departure, participants are involved in an online class that follow through the different works of art and inventions, manuscripts and personalities of Leonardo da Vinci. An expert historian of the Renaissance will present the figure of Leonardo at the epicenter of an extraordinary age, full of artistic and cultural fervor.
