This talk provides an overview of how a field called the health humanities (also known as the medical humanities or narrative medicine) draws together a range of disciplines and the arts in a movement that builds advocacy for those who are ill and disabled. Beginning with first-person accounts of illness and disability, the health humanities investigate the point of view of those who seek health care and educates health care providers and others about the socio-cultural factors that shape their experiences, factors such as class, culture, environment, and community.
Prof Garden will outline a new model to approach to health care keeping in mind the key word : compassion for the patient.
