Attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, accompanied by a crenellated parapet walk, is the end of the first core of the Government Palace, built between the thirteenth and fourteenth century.
Inside the tower is located up a steep stone staircase of 218 steps leading to the summit. Approximately half tour opens a small cell, the Alberghettino, where they were imprisoned in 1433 and in 1498 Old Cosimo Girolamo Savonarola.
During the summer (until Sept. 30) it will remain open daily from 9 to 21 (last accessed on Thursday is 1.30 pm). The climb is not allowed in case of rain and for children under 6 years. It remains recommended to visitors with difficulty motor, with heart disease, for asthmatics, who suffers from vertigo and claustrophobia. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
