Tuscan beaches are getting better

castiglione-della-pescaia-a-tuscan-beachFLORENCE, ITALY – The 2012 edition of Bandiere Blu awarded 246 beaches with the flag, which is 13 more than 2011. The scores are awarded by FEE the Foundation for Environmental Education in collaboration with Enel Sole, and were awarded in Rome. Liguria has the most awards, with 18 beaches, one more than last year. In second position, with 16 beaches, are both Tuscany and the Marche.

The beaches that received recognition in Tuscany include the area of Versilia, with Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Camaiore and Viareggio.In Pisa, the Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone, while in Livorno there’s Antignano, Quercianella, Castiglioncello and Vada di Rosignano Marittimo, Cecina, Marina di Bibbona, Castagneto Carducci, San Vincenzo and the Parco naturale della Sterpaia (Piombino). Of course the beaches in Maremma are also celebrated, including Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia, Marina and Principina di Grosseto and the Monte Argentario.
