The city of Florence has granted its international creativity award for the renowned Kuwaiti poet, Khalifa Al-Wugayyan, in appreciation for his prominent literary role, on the occasion of the city twining with the capital of Kuwait.
Al-Wugayyan received the award, “Florence Shield,” at a broad ceremony, held at Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, granted by the “Florence-Europe cultural center,” which honors Italian and international figures, with distinguished records in culture, arts, sports and professions. The president of the award, Marco Celi, praised Al-Wugayyan as “a voice that truly promotes the Arabic poetry”.
The 29th annual ceremony of the award was attended by several ranking local officials, figures and notables, namely the mayor of the city, Matteo Renzi, head of the Kuwait-Italian Friendship Society, Pierre Andrea Fani, and the Kuwaiti Charge d’affaires, Iadah Al-Saeedi.
