Fiorentina to mark centenary with fireworks and light show at Franchi stadium

Fiorentina will celebrate its 100th anniversary with fireworks, lights, music and a special show at Florence’s Artemio Franchi stadium on Saturday, 29 August.

The event will begin after Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Frosinone, scheduled to kick off at 6.30 p.m. The date marks exactly a century since the club was founded in Florence on 29 August 1926.

According to the club, the stadium will be transformed into an open-air stage after the final whistle, with choreographed displays, projections, music and other events retracing Fiorentina’s first 100 years.

Former players who have represented the club during different periods of its history are also expected to take part in the celebrations.

The match against Frosinone will be Fiorentina’s first home fixture of the 2026/27 Serie A season. The Viola are due to begin their league campaign away against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday, 24 August, before returning to Florence for the centenary match five days later.

Former players return to the Franchi

The anniversary programme will continue on Wednesday, 2 September at 8 p.m., when the Artemio Franchi stadium will host another event celebrating Fiorentina’s centenary.

A Fiorentina Legends side will face an Operazione Nostalgia All Star selection, bringing former players back onto the pitch for an evening dedicated to the club’s history and Italian football.

The match is part of a wider programme planned throughout Fiorentina’s centenary season, with further initiatives dedicated to the club’s history expected to take place in Florence and at Viola Park, its training centre in Bagno a Ripoli.

Fiorentina preparing for new season

The centenary preparations come as Fiorentina gets ready for the start of its competitive season.

The club’s summer programme includes a high-profile friendly against Real Madrid in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Fiorentina’s squad has also been joined by Spanish defender Víctor Valdepeñas, born in 2006, who arrived from Real Madrid as part of the club’s preparations for the new campaign.

The first competitive home match is scheduled for 14 August in the Coppa Italia, before the Serie A season begins later in the month.
