Wildfire Breaks Out on Castiglione della Pescaia-Punta Ala Road

A wildfire broke out on Saturday, August 1,2026, along the provincial road between Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala, on the Tuscan coast in the province of Grosseto.

The fire is affecting the area near the tunnel on the road connecting the two popular seaside destinations, causing significant disruption to traffic during one of the busiest weekends of the summer season.

Traffic delays and queues

According to the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, traffic on the affected section of road is currently being allowed through in alternating directions, resulting in long queues and delays.

Local authorities have urged drivers to exercise particular caution and, where possible, to avoid the area until conditions improve.

The road is an important coastal connection for residents and tourists travelling between Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala and other destinations along the Maremma coast.

Firefighting helicopter deployed

Several firefighting teams are working to contain the blaze, including crews from Bandite di Scarlino, the Italian fire brigade and volunteers from VAB Castiglione della Pescaia.

Ground vehicles have been deployed, while a firefighting helicopter is also operating over the area to support efforts to bring the flames under control.

No information has so far been released about injuries or damage caused by the fire.

Travellers heading towards Punta Ala or Castiglione della Pescaia are advised to check local traffic conditions before setting out and to consider alternative routes while firefighting operations continue.
