Pellicola Urbana exhibition brings analog photography to Brac in Florence

A collective exhibition dedicated to analog photography is on display at Brac in Florence until June 30, bringing together photographers who share an interest in film photography and in a slower, more deliberate approach to image-making.

Titled Pellicola Urbana, the exhibition is linked to Rollbox, a project founded by photographers Antonio Logarzo and Niccolò Romagnoli to support and expand the collective of film photographers in Florence. Through a network of cultural venues across the city, Rollbox offers film development, scanning and printing services while encouraging encounters between professionals, enthusiasts and newcomers to analog photography.

A collective look at the city

The exhibition grew out of a series of shared photographic outings in which participants explored the city using analog cameras and a variety of film formats, both colour and black and white. The initiative encourages photographers to move beyond digital interactions and social media, creating opportunities to meet, exchange ideas and discuss photography in person.

According to the organisers, Pellicola Urbana is also an invitation to rediscover the value of waiting, attention and observation. In contrast with the immediacy of digital photography, film requires time and patience, making the photographic process as important as the final image itself.

The photographers

The exhibition features works by Niccolò Romagnoli, Antonio Logarzo, Giancarlo Barzagli, Lucas Rigonat, Alessandro Monticelli, Carlotta Stevani, Lorenzo Ferrari, Maike Prause and Murat Afsar.

Their images offer different perspectives on urban life, architecture, light and everyday scenes. Some focus on material details and textures, while others explore shadow, movement and the changing character of the contemporary city. Together, the works highlight the diversity of approaches that continue to make analog photography relevant in the digital age.

The Rollbox project

Launched in Florence in 2025, Rollbox was created to make film photography more accessible through a simple network of collection points where photographers can leave exposed rolls for development and scanning. The initiative combines traditional darkroom techniques with contemporary tools, creating a bridge between analog processes and today’s photographic culture.

Over time, the project has evolved beyond a technical service, becoming a meeting point for people interested in film photography and its creative possibilities. Pellicola Urbana represents one of the most visible results of that growing scene.

Practical information

Pellicola Urbana is on display at Brac (via dei Vagellai, 18/R), in Florence, until June 30, 2026. The exhibition features the work of nine photographers connected to the Rollbox network and offers a snapshot of the city’s emerging analog photography scene.
