Crowds gather across Florence to watch Frecce Tricolori flyover

Thousands of people gathered along Florence’s bridges and riverbanks on Friday morning to watch a flyover by the Frecce Tricolori, organised for the oath ceremony of cadets at the city’s Air Force military school.

The aircraft flew in a reduced formation of six jets as part of the ceremony for 33 students at the Giulio Douhet Air Force Military School, located near the Cascine park in the western part of Florence.

The jets crossed the city on a south-west to north-east route, passing close to the Cascine area and leaving the characteristic green, white and red smoke trails. Applause broke out from the crowd as the formation moved over the historic centre.

A brief flyover over the city

The display was limited to flyovers, without complex aerobatic manoeuvres, due to the urban setting. The aircraft followed mostly linear routes above Florence, carrying out holding patterns over nearby countryside before the scheduled pass.

Crowds along the Arno

Large groups of residents and visitors stopped along the lungarni and on bridges to watch the passage of the jets, many filming the flyover as it crossed the city.

The event briefly slowed pedestrian and vehicle movement in some central areas, but no significant disruptions were reported.

Ceremony at the Giulio Douhet school

The flyover was part of the oath ceremony at the Giulio Douhet Air Force Military School, a secondary-level institution run by the Italian Air Force that combines academic education with military training.

The ceremony marks a formal step in the students’ path within the school and is traditionally accompanied by symbolic events involving the national aerobatic team.
