One of Tuscany’s most anticipated annual events is set to return in early 2026. The Carnevale di Viareggio will run from 1 to 21 February, marking its 153rd edition with six traditional corsi mascherati (masked parades) along the city’s waterfront.

Held in Viareggio, on the northern Tuscan coast about 25 kilometres from Pisa and around 90 kilometres from Florence, the carnival is internationally known for its monumental allegorical floats. Built in papier-mâché by local workshops, the floats combine complex mechanical movement with satire on social, political and cultural themes.

The 2026 parade dates
