Video Shows Fire at Piazzale Michelangelo After New Year’s Eve

Another social-media clip raises concerns about public safety following reported Piazza Duomo fight. The second incident tied to New Year’s Eve celebrations in Florence has emerged on social media, this time showing a group of young people gathered around a fire at Piazzale Michelangelo, according to footage circulating under the Florence Fails account.

The short video shows several individuals standing around what appears to be a bonfire set in the open space of the panoramic piazza late on New Year’s Eve or shortly after. The clip has been shared widely on Instagram and Facebook, with some viewers critical of the lack of apparent oversight by authorities in the area.

This development follows our earlier report on a fight that broke out in Piazza del Duomo late on New Year’s Eve, where a brief confrontation involving a small group of people was caught on video as crowds celebrated the start of 2026. Police confirmed that they were reviewing the footage as part of their efforts to understand the circumstances and identify those involved.

The scene at Piazzale Michelangelo does not appear to involve violence, but the presence of an open flame in a public space has drawn questions from residents and visitors about safety and public order during major holiday nights. The video shared under the Florence Fails handle highlights how quickly informal gatherings can escalate into potentially hazardous situations when large numbers of people are out late at night.

Local authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding the Piazzale Michelangelo footage or whether any enforcement action was taken.
