A 35-year-old woman from Panama was reportedly sexually assaulted in the early hours of Friday in Piazza San Pancrazio, a small square in central Florence located between Via Tornabuoni and Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
According to police sources, a passerby heard the woman’s cries for help around 4 a.m. and immediately called the emergency number 112. Officers from the Squadra Volanti responded to the scene and found the victim, who was later taken to Careggi Hospital for treatment.
Two men, both foreign nationals, were identified and taken to the police headquarters for questioning. Investigations are ongoing to reconstruct the events and determine any possible responsibility.
Piazza San Pancrazio, though just steps away from the busy shopping streets, is a relatively secluded area of the city center, still home to a few residents.
