The Rossi of Santa Maria Novella triumphed in the final match of the 2025 edition of Calcio Storico Fiorentino, crushing the Verdi of San Giovanni with a decisive 17–4 win. With this result, the Rossi secure the symbolic prize of the vitella for the second consecutive year.
The match, held as tradition on June 24 for the feast of Florence’s patron saint, began evenly, with the score tied 3–3 during the opening 15 to 20 minutes. However, the momentum soon shifted decisively: the Rossi launched an unstoppable offensive, scoring 11 consecutive cacce that left the Verdi with no room to recover. A fourth and final score from San Giovanni narrowed the gap slightly, but the Rossi, led by captain Massimiliano Petragallo, pressed on to seal the commanding 17–4 finish.
Their performance echoed the semifinal, where they had already demonstrated their dominance with a 16-and-a-half to 6 victory over the Azzurri of Santa Croce.
The final was attended by Florence’s mayor Sara Funaro and this year’s magnifico messere, television presenter Carlo Conti, who watched from the official stand. Among the invited guests were former Fiorentina footballer Borja Valero and professional boxer Fabio Turchi.
The result reaffirms the Rossi’s current supremacy in Calcio Storico, Florence’s historic and fiercely contested game that blends tradition, strength, and community pride.
