Lucio Corsi, the Tuscan singer-songwriter who secured second place at the 75th Sanremo Music Festival, has been announced as Italy’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. This decision comes after Sanremo winner Olly declined the opportunity to participate in Eurovision.

The 31-year-old artist from Grosseto, Tuscany, expressed his enthusiasm on Instagram, stating: “I’ve always chased guitars escaping from their cases, pianos fleeing homes, harmonicas blown by the wind; I’ll chase the instruments again this time. Thank you all, I’m very happy.”

Corsi will perform his song “Volevo essere un duro” (“I Wanted to Be Tough”) during the Grand Final on May 17, 2025. The Eurovision Song Contest 2025, hosted in Basel, will feature two semifinals on May 13 and 15, with the final broadcast live on Rai 1, Raiplay, and Rai Radio2.

Olly, who won Sanremo with “Balorda Nostalgia,” announced his decision to withdraw from Eurovision, citing a desire to focus on his sold-out tour and personal well-being. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and conveyed his best wishes to Corsi.

Lucio Corsi, known for his unique blend of glam rock and surreal lyrics, has been active in the Italian music scene since 2011. His discography includes albums such as “Bestiario musicale” (2017), “Cosa faremo da grandi?” (2020), and “La gente che sogna” (2023). In addition to his musical career, Corsi has collaborated with fashion brand Gucci and appeared in Italian television series.

Italy’s participation in Basel marks its 50th appearance at Eurovision, with Corsi’s entry being the 52nd song presented by the country in the competition. Fans are eagerly anticipating his performance, hoping to see Italy secure another Eurovision victory.
