FLORENCE, ITALY – ACF Fiorentina new stadium project was unveiled today Friday March 10, 2017, it hopes to be playing in by 2021. The new stadium will seat 40,000 people.

The project of the ACF Fiorentina new stadium will cost 420 million euro and regenerate an area in a northwestern suburb of Florence. It also includes a shopping center, a hotel and new transport links.

Founded by a merger in 1926, and refounded in 2002 following bankruptcy, ACF Fiorentina have played at the top level of Italian football for the majority of their existence; only four clubs have played in more Serie A seasons.

Since 1931, the club have played at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, which currently has a capacity of 47,282. The stadium has used several names over the years and has undergone several renovations. Fiorentina are known widely by the nickname Viola, a reference to their distinctive purple colours. The first brick for the new stadium is expected to be laid in 2019, with construction taking two years.

«It’s a historic moment. We’re presenting an important project for Florence and for all of Italy. It will be a sort of Purple Renaissance,» ACF Fiorentina owner Andrea Della Valle said.
