FLORENCE, ITALY – A competition of choirs in Florence will honor the Italian maestro Ennio Morricone’s music in the year in which he won the Oscar.
Ennio Morricone won the best original score Academy Award for his compositions for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight at the 2016 Oscars.
It was the first Oscar for the 87-year-old, who created some of cinema’s most memorable scores, such as those for The Untouchables, The Mission and Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti westerns. He won an honorary Academy Award for his career in 2007 and had been nominated for an Oscar five times previously.
The Florence International Choir Festival is enhanced by a prestigious new initiative: a choral composition competition that will see the famous Maestro Ennio Morricone, honarary Academy Award winner, act as Chairman of an International Jury of eminent composers.
The best composition will be the obligatory piece in the category M – Modern and Contemporary Music and it will be premiered during the Festival.
The winning composer will be member of the international jury in the Florence International Choir Festival.
