ROME, ITALY – Rome has been awarded the right to host the 2022 Ryder Cup. The biennial competition sees the best golfers from Europe and the United States do battle to win one of international sport’s most prestigious trophies.
In 2022 it will take place at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, which is only 17 kilometres from the centre of Rome. It will be the first time Italy hosts the Ryder Cup and only its third time on continental Europe, after it was held at Valderrama in Spain in 1997 and Paris was awarded the 2018 event.
Italy beat off competition from bids from Austria, Germany and Spain to win the 2024 Cup. Ryder Cup Europe said that the Italian bid was consistently strong across all the areas evaluated, in particular in the pledge to undertake a complete reconstruction of the golf course at Marco Simone.
