96.5% of Italians drink coffee, a study says

FLORENCE, ITALY – Coffee is the National Drink of Italians, according to a study conducted by Astra Ricerche conducted for the Coffee Promotion consortium released on Tuesday May 19, 2015. Astra Ricerche presented its survey at the launch of the Coffe Break Festival, a May 20 to 22 coffee-centric event in Florence, Italy.

The study said 96.5% of Italians between the ages 18 and 65 drink coffee, with men from Italy’s Piedmont and Lombardy regions representing majority of coffee drinkers. Italian coffee culture has created three categories of consumers, according to the report: weak, one to two cups daily (36%), medium, two to three cups daily (36%) and heavy, more than three cups daily (27%).

The report detailed that 89% drink coffee at home and 75% in a bar. More than half of people surveyed said they would never give it up.
