FLORENCE, ITALY – Hundreds of people gathered across Florence and other Italian cities to pay tribute to the victims of a violent shooting at the Paris offices of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.
Crowds gathered today January 8, 2015, in piazza Ognissanti, in front of the French consulate in Florence. Florence’s David dons black armband for Paris terror victims too for a while. The reproduction of Michelangelo’s famed David statue at the entrance to Palazzo Vecchio in Florence donned a black arm band on Thursday as a sign of mourning for the 12 people killed in Wednesday’s attack by a suspected Islamist commando on the Paris offices of the weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, invited Florentines to take part in a candlelit vigil outside the French consulate in Piazza Ognissanti tomorrow (Friday, January 9, 2015) at 7pm for the second day in a row.
