FLORENCE, ITALY – The artist Giuliano Ghelli, 69, died last Friday at his home in San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence, Italy. He was one of the Tuscan masters of painting and sculpture in contemporary art.
Influenced by current Surrealist, Ghelli is considered an informal artist, famous for his paintings with flying objects. Ghelli has starred in over 100 exhibitions culminating in the great exhibition at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan in 1992.
In 2009 Ghelli has also created the “Cencio” for the Palio of Siena. In 2000 won the competition of the Foundation Collodi, Pescia, to create a mural dedicated to Pinocchio.
“The emotional content of my work is for me the most intriguing. Surrendering and conserving emotions, in a kind of personal space, together with objects, interior and exterior landscapes, intimate and cultural memories, even dreams, is indispensable for an artist”, he used to say.
