Florence students to help hurricane Sandy victims

F-NYFLORENCE, ITALY – On November 7th 2012 Lion’s Fountain, along with a student travel group, Euroadventures, hosted a fundraiser to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, a terrible storm that recently devastated the east coast of the United States. New Jersey was hit particularly hard.

Lion’s Fountain is a popular bar for American students studying abroad in Florence. Students frequently go there to drink, socialize, and watch sports. The event allowed students to continue to do these things, while also supporting a good cause.

Entrants were prompted to purchases wristbands, which would enter them into a raffle and get them discounted drinks. Wristbands were only 2 Euro, and all proceeds, as well as all tips made to Lion’s Fountain staff were donated to the Red Cross’s Disaster Relief Program.

Euroadventures was raffling off some amazing prizes, including free food to restaurants such as The Clubhouse and O Vesuvio Pizzeria, a membership to Swan Gym, and a grand prize of a free trip to Prague.

The turn out was great. Many students, along with some Italians came out to support the cause.

Dave Anderson, a representative of Euroadventures, was excited about the success of the event. He explained, “”It was amazing to see abroad students, as well as Florentines coming together to help an American cause, even when they are 3000 miles away. Euroadventures was really proud to be able to put on an event that could help those affected back home.”

For those interested in further supporting the relief efforts, please consider donating to the American Red Cross or visit www.sandynjrelieffund.org to learn more about how to help.
