Tuscany has a first taste of autumn starting Sunday
With today’s temperatures reaching a warm 27 degrees Celsius at several cities throughout the peninsula, Ilmeteo chief forecaster, Antonio Sano’, says the arrival of this month’s third Atlantic weather front, “Cloe”, will bring rain to north-west Italy’s Piedmont later tonight. Cloe is expected to bring rain to northern and central Italy tomorrow.
The springtime of the Renaissance in Florence
The Springtime of the Renaissance will be held at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence (23 March-18 August 2013), then at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The exhibition proposes to illustrate the origin of what is still known today as the “miracle” of the Renaissance in Florence, doing so principally through masterpieces of sculpture, the branch of figurative art in which that new season first saw the light of day.

Medici descendant tries to block an exhumation
An indirect descendant of the Medici dynasty has filed a police complaint to block the exhumation of the remains of Princess Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, whose death in 1743 marked the end of the Grand Ducal line. “It would be a profanity, contrary to common morals and to the devotion to the dead,” said the president of the International Association of the Medici.
The city of Florence to host 2013 cancer meet
More than 2,000 experts from around the world are to meet in Florence, Italy to discuss the latest developments in cancer and cervical papillomavirus research. Florence Convention Bureau, in collaboration with Firenze Fiera, will host the 2013 edition of Eurogin to be held from 03-05 November. Eurogin is a major international forum for cervical cancer and papillomavirus experts, organised by its Paris-based association and chaired by Dr Raphael Monsonego.
Vietnamese office opened in Tuscany
A Vietnamese representative office was inaugurated in Italy’s Tuscany region on September 17. The office, located at Tuscany region’s economic promotion agency, will play an important role in exchanging information about economics, trade and investment between Vietnam and Tuscany and helping businesses seek investment opportunities.
Costa Concordia, second tranche of funds approved
Cleaning up the half-sunken Costa Concordia cruise liner off the coast of Giglio island is going according to plan, according to supervisors from the region of Tuscany on Tuesday. “Results of the program have been satisfactory,” said Tuscan regional cabinet member Maria Sargentini.
