European cultural heritage days in Tuscany

Biblioteca Riccardiana in the European cultural heritage daysFLORENCE, ITALY – Every year in September, the 50 signatory States to the European Cultural Convention take part in the European Heritage Days – a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, putting new cultural assets on view and opening up historical buildings normally closed to the public.

The cultural events highlight local skills and traditions, architecture and works of art, but the broader aim is to bring citizens together in harmony even though there are differences in cultures and languages.

September 29 and 30 is the week end of the European Cultural Heritage Days. It means that you have free entrance in all State Museums, archeological and cultural sites such as National Libraries.

Museums are also the location of events, which have been organized on behalf of the cultural heritage such as conferences, music concerts or special guided visits.

In Florence f.i. you can visit the Biblioteca Riccardiana which is inside the Palazzo Medici Riccardi: on Saturday special access to the monumental halls from 10 am to 5 pm.

Anyway in the whole Florence area events are scheduled; if you want to discover what’s next to you check for the program (in Italian only) at this web site or call the free toll number 800 991199.
