This 3-day event helped to bring attention to the agricultural community in Tuscany. Many artisans, farmers, and vendors came together to celebrate this cause. The park was lined with a bountiful amount of tents, in which rural merchants proudly displayed their products. Guests could purchase a variety of items, ranging from wine, olive oil, cheese, fresh produce, to even hand crafted items for the home. The merchants demonstrated their passion and knowledge about their products, while also emphasizing their Tuscan origins. The quality of their goods surpassed my expectations. Everything was so fresh. I quickly realized the benefits of purchasing these items. Not only do you support your local economy, but also you get a superior product.
Special attention was paid to olive oil, as it is an important symbol of the area. Tuscan oil olive is known around the world as being one of the best in the country. Olive groves are vast in the region, making it an important export for Tuscany, and a large factor of the regional economy. Visitors had the chance to sample and purchase a wide range of Tuscan olive oils.
The Expo Rurale was a great opportunity for Florentines to learn more about the Tuscan agricultural economy. There were many informational booths where visitors could familiarize themselves with the progress this initiative has made, while also discovering some of the current challenges facing the cause.
