Florence is a tourist town, but most retailers do not agree on Sunday openings. Trade unions protested yesterday: they have demonstrated in major cities across the Country, also in Florence. Even the Catholic Church voiced its support on Sunday as part of a Europe-wide campaign against allowing more businesses to stay open on Sundays.

Ornellaia, charity auction in Hong Kong
On April 27, 21 bottles of 111 in the collection of “Harvest of Ornellaia 2009 Artist Equilibrium” by Ornellaia will be part of a charity auction at a gala dinner in Hong Kong. During the evening auction at Sotheby’s it will be presented one Salmanazar, 10 imperial and 10 double magnums made unique by the hands of the artist Zhang Huan. The proceeds will be donated to “H2 Foundation for Arts and Education, Luo Zhongli Scholarship”.
Vespucci, Hillary Clinton’s letter to the Mayor

Mercatale, the best agricultural products
Saturday, March 3 in Piazza della Repubblica, Florence, Italy, back “The Mercatale of Florence,” to learn about and buy the best agricultural products of Italy. The market is composed by 84 producers from Florence and Tuscany (27 companies produce organic food), presenting the best of vegetables, seasonal fruit, cheese, olive oil, jams, sauces and juices, bread and cakes, honey, biscuits and wines.
Uffizi, Italian chiaroscuro woodcuts open ’til April 22
«As if Made with the Brush» Italian Chiaroscuro Woodcuts from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century goes on. The exhibition at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, should have closed on 11 March, but – given the success – has been extended until April 22, 2012.
Scientists from all over the world at USISTF workshop

“Americans in Florence”, a tribute to Vespucci
The exhibition “Americans in Florence. Sargent and the American Impressionists”, 2 March – 15 July 2012 at Palazzo Strozzi, explores the American impressionists’ relationship with Italy, and with Florence, 500 years since the death of Amerigo Vespucci. The exhibition is designed to celebrate the strong ties linking the Old and the New World, and the cosmopolitan ambiance transmitting European culture to America.
