The monuments of Florence? I (don’t) care

San Zanobi columnFLORENCE, ITALY – The column of San Zanobi in piazza Duomo, the statue of Neptune, the Tower of Arnolfo over Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, the bridge of Santa Trinita and the Piazzale Michelangelo.

These are some of the most famous Florentine monuments in need of various types of restoration or maintenance, for which the City of Florence, in the month of September launched a call for “adoption”, named “Florence, I care”.

The municipal administration pointed to potential private sponsors and offered to stakeholders a special space to advertise their image, in non-invasive way and respectful forms of public decorum.

Within six months after its launch, only the column of San Zanobi is “adopted” with 20,000 euros . All the other monuments still remain “orphans”.  Among the reasons of this situation the present difficulties of the economic system.
