Uffizi, free entrance for women on March 8

Uffizi (Eblaser) - CCFLORENCE, ITALY – with the fresco of the Crucifixion by Beato Angelico, will be closed to the public for extraordinary maintenance work and a campaign of scientific investigations on the fresco itself.

Moreover, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8: free entrance for women to all public art sites as Uffizi or Galleria dell’Accademia.

The Uffizi Gallery occupies the top floor of the large building erected by Giorgio Vasari. Its collection of Primitive and Renaissance paintings comprises several universally acclaimed masterpieces of all time, including works by Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Fra Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio. German, Dutch and Flemish masters are also well represented with important works by Dürer, Rembrandt and Rubens.

The Accademia Gallery is particularly famous for its sculptures by Michelangelo: the Prisoners, the St.Matthew and, especially, the statue of David which was transferred here, to the specially designed tribune, from Piazza della Signoria in 1873.
